Art GalleryThe Art Gallery in Mundal is at "Bok og Bilde", in the same building as the Tourist Office. Open daily 10-18 in May-September.

Bøyabreen (glacier)Outlet glacier from the Jostedalsbreen. The ice in the icefall is moving down the mountain side with a speed of 2 m a day. Easy access with car/bus, only 10 km away from Mundal.

Bøyaøyri estuaryBøyaøyri estuary is a river delta with approx. 100 different species of birds. It is an important nesting area for migrating birds. Tower for bird watchers.

Fjærland churchThe church was built in 1861 and refurbished in 1931. In June - August the church is open to the public between 10 and 18.

Flatbreen (glacier) and the cabin FlatbrehyttaFlatbreen is part of the large glacier Jostedalsbreen, approx. 1000 m a.s.l. Close to the glacier you find the self service cabin Flatbrehytta with 18 beds. From Øygarden, in the valley Supphelledalen, there is a path going up to the cabin. It is a 2 - 3 hours hike one way, depending on how fit you are.

The glacierfall

Hotel MundalThe beautiful Hotel Mundal, built in 1891, is one of the few remaining wooden hotels left in Fjord Norway. It is open May - September.

Jostedalsbreen National ParkThe National Park has great variations in vegetation. The main reason for establishing the park was to secure an unspoilt glacial area. The glacier is the largest glacier on mainland Europe, approx. 80 km long.

K.A. Straumsvågs AntikvariatStraumsvåg's secondhand bookshop and proprietor Kjell Arve Straumsvåg offer 25 000 books for sale, in most categories and languages.

We stock older and more recent antiquarian books, and have well-sorted selections of children's books, travel literature, war history and other historical subjects, as well as novels, poetry and more. We also sell books per mail order.

Straumsvåg's secondhand bookshop is an independent company in The Norwegian Booktown, Mundal, Fjærland.

Norwegian Glacier MuseumP.S! The Glaciermuseum is open on Norway's national day, the 17th of May, from 10am to 4 pm.

The museum is a hands-on museum giving you knowledge about ice, snow, landscape and climate in a new and exciting way. There you can, among other things, do your own experiments with 1000 year old ice from the glacier and watch a stunning panorama film from the glacier Jostedalsbreen. In 2007 a new experience exhibition on climatechanges was created in 2007 and the museum was opened bt H.M. Queen Sonja in 1991.

Supphellebreen (glacier)This is the lowest lying glacier in Southern Norway, only 60 m a.s.l. The glacier is kept alive by ice avalanches from Flatbreen, some 800 m higher. Yearly so much ice is coming down to the valley floor that if we put the ice on a football ground it will be a layer of ice 230 m thick.
Easy access by car/bus, approx. 10 km from Mundal.

The FjærlandsfjordThe Fjærlandsfjord is a 30 km branch of the Sognefjord. The voyage from Balestrand/ Hella to Fjærland is reckoned as one of the most beautiful in Norway.

It is the M/S Skånevik that sails on the fjord in 2011. The ferry is from 1967 and it's protected. It is possible to buy food and drink on the ferry. The trip on the fjærlandsfjord goes from Balestrand/Hella to Fjærland, twice daily in June, July and August. In May and September there is a passengerboat once daily.

Tickets can be purchased on the ferry/boat, cash or card. Booking at www.discoversognefjord.com or the Tourist Offices.

The Norwegian BooktownThe book town offers approxemately 250.000 second-hand books for sale in picturesque book shops. Some shops combine books with a cafè, local handicraft, woven carpets and art gallery. The Booktown is situated in Mundal and there are 12 different outlets.

Openinghours: Every day from 10 am to 6 pm, 30 April to 18 September. Sunday 18th of September is the last day that the book shops are open and the mammothsale will take place from 10 am to 6 pm. Half price on most of the books.
